At least three pedestrians were killed in the Midlands over the weekend, and a driver is being sought in one of the deaths.
The victims died in separate incidents on Friday night.
The Item newspaper reports 62-year-old Doretta Johnson of Columbia was walking in downtown Sumter about 8:30 p.m. along Warren Street when a hit-and-run occurred.
Police are searching for the driver of a dark-colored car with possible damage to the front.
In Lexington County, the Highway Patrol says a pickup hit a pedestrian crossing Bush River Road near I-20 about 7 p.m.
The Coroner's Office says 71-year-old Wesley Robinson of Columbia died at the scene.
And the third pedestrian death – in Richland County – involved a Columbia man along Clemson Road near Sparkleberry Lane about 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Coroner Gary Watts says 56-year-old William Allen was wearing dark clothing when he walked in the roadway and was struck.
He later died at a hospital from head injuries.
