Two people died and five were injured Friday in a traffic mishap in Sumter County.

It happened about 7:30 p.m. in Sumter at the intersection of Lafayette Drive and Myrtle Street.

Police say it appears a car traveling along Lafayette Drive veered into oncoming traffic and struck another car and an SUV. 

The Sumter County Coroner's Office has identified the victims who died at the scene as 68-year-old James Roger and 45-year-old Ophelia Minnant.

The survivors who were hurt are believed to have injuries that are not life-threatening.
