USC Police responded to an armed robbery near campus at Main and Whaley Streets around 3:30am this morning, the third such incident since the semester began last Thursday.

According to the university's alert system, the victim was approached by a man, dressed in all black and armed with a bat, demanding money. The victim was assaulted and is being treated.

The suspect is described as a black male, wearing all black clothing and a black knit hat.

The USC Police Department is assisting Columbia Police with this investigation.

This follows the announcement yesterday by school president Harris Pastides that he is bringing more security to the campus. Pastides says starting this week there will be additional police on campus 24 hours a day, in uniform and plainclothes.
