A Lexington County man has been arrested for possessing four Chevy Camaros stolen from a North Charleston car dealership.

Sheriff's Major John Allard says the vehicles, worth a combined total of $160,000, were reported stolen January 21st and were found February 26th during a chop shop investigation at Brown's Auto Sales in Gaston, operated by 34-year-old Travis Brown.

“Brown altered the vehicle identification numbers on the four Chevrolet Camaros so that the vehicle identification numbers matched the numbers for inoperable motor vehicles store at the business,” Allard says.

“An arrest warrant further alleges that Brown stored and altered numbers on motor vehicles which Brown knew had been reported stolen.“

Brown is also charged with operating a chop shop and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Allard says under state law, he cannot legally have a gun because he was convicted in 2006 of a drug offense that was a violent felony.
