If you own a home – or are about to – you might want to check out the city of Columbia's OMG Homeownership Workshop coming up this weekend.

OMG, in this case, stands for “owning, maintaining and gardening.”

Jeff Rainwater, with the city's Community Development Department, says the event will present plenty information on a wide range of topics.

“Everything from rookie homebuyer to putting the green in your home,” Rainwater says.  “Home Depot is coming out and going to have some do-it-yourself classes.  We have landscaping called 'Prune It, Don't Ruin It.'  Many of us have had difficulties with trying to prune things.”

“And we even have crime prevention with 'Protect Your Home in Layers.'  So, it's a little bit of everything that could look for related to home ownership.”

Rainwater says there will also be chances to win door prizes that include a seven-piece outdoor dining set, charcoal grill with accessories, fire pit and a yard tool package.

The event will be Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Midlands Technical College – the northeast branch on Powell Road.

Organizers do ask that you pre-register online  by 5 p.m Wednesday.
