A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot at a Richland County Sheriff's deputy during a pursuit.
We're told that early Tuesday morning at Eastway Park and Bluff Road, an officer spotted an SUV that had recently been reported stolen.
But Sheriff's Sergeant Curtis Wilson says the driver wouldn't pull over when the deputy tried to stop him, so the officer pursued the vehicle to a dead end on Crestlite Drive.
“At that time, the deputy stepped out of his patrol vehicle and approached the suspect's vehicle,” Wilson says. “That's when the suspect fired shots at the deputy and then fled the area.”
The man eventually crashed the SUV along Camino Court, where he then fled on foot. He was later taken into custody that night.
In addition to attempted murder, 26-year-old Dexter Fuller is also charged with failure to stop for blue lights.
Wilson says they're still trying to determine if Fuller should be charged with vehicle theft.
