A suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Lexington County was shot dead Monday after he threatened to shoot a sheriff's deputy.

According to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, deputy Billy Womble was responding to “a shots fired” call at a home on Mineral Springs Road around 1 p.m.

Womble was met by the suspect, who pointed a gun at the deputy and threatened to open fire.

Sheriff James Metts says that's when Womble fired his gun at the suspect, who later died due to his wounds.

The Sheriff's Department says SLED is investigating the incident.
