Authorities say a female motorist was confronted by a male driver after he rear-ended her car earlier this month.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department says the man's van hit the back of the woman's car about 1 p.m. on March 3rd at the intersection of Bluff Road and Blair Street.

But Sheriff's Sergeant Curtis Wilson says the man wasn't cooperative about reporting the mishap.

“She attempted to take a picture of the suspect's license tag because he didn't want her calling law enforcement for the accident,” Wilson says.

“He approached her, used abusive language and then also assaulted her.  She was able to get that picture after he bent his license tag upward so that you can't make it out.”

Wilson says the man was driving a dark blue Plymouth Voyager van with wood grain trim.

The driver is facing assault charges, as well as various traffic offenses.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
