Police are reminding you not to leave doors and windows unlocked overnight after what occurred in West Columbia early Sunday morning.

It happened at Park Place Apartments along Comanchee Trail about 3 a.m.

Investigators say a 28-year-old woman told them that a man entered her apartment through a sliding glass door and attempted to sexually assault the woman and her daughter.

When the woman started to fight her assailant, she was shot multiple times and the man fled.

Bloodhounds were brought to the scene but were not able to pick up his trail.

The suspect is described as a black male approximately 5’5”, 160 pounds.  He was wearing blue jeans, a blue ball cap and boots.

He also had some type of dark rag covering his face.

Police say the man likely will be charged with aggravated assault, burglary and possibly more.
