A fourth suspect has been charged in the assault of a mentally disabled couple during a home invasion in Richland County last week.

Sheriff Leon Lott says 28-year-old Abdul Muhammad was taken into custody at his home in Lexington.

Lott says Muhammad, 18-year-old Kevin Peay Jr., 20-year-old Andrew Moore and 26-year-old Adam Barber are all charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, burglary and kidnapping.

The sheriff says the four suspects forced their way Thursday morning into a unit at Briargate Apartments and Condos in the 300 block of Menlo Drive off Broad River Road.

Lott says a male victim was assaulted, tied up and stabbed and a female was sexually assaulted at knifepoint.

The sheriff says the suspects then ransacked the apartment and fled with a TV and other items.
