Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster is stepping up to become the 117th governor of South Carolina.
McMaster successfully ran for lieutenant governor in 2014, after a defeat for governor in 2010. He was one of the first mainstream Republicans to endorse Donald Trump for president.
Trump eventually nominated Governor Nikki Haley to be the U.N. Ambassador.
Her confirmation yesterday opened up the governor's seat to McMaster.
