Five Points Bar Owner Booked, Charged with Assaulting USC Student

(WOLO) – A Five Points bar owner has been charged in the assault of a University of South Carolina student, after Columbia Police said he turned himself in early Friday.

Investigators said Daniel Wells, 29, is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, stemming from an incident that happened early the morning of March 19, in front of Carolina Pour House. CPD said business licenses and other documents show that Wells is the owner of Carolina Pour House. The establishment is located in the 800 block of Harden Street in the Five Points neighborhood.

Authorities said Wells is accused of grabbing the victim in a choke hold, leaving him unconscious, and then throwing him to the ground causing him to lose several teeth and suffer a broken jaw. Since the assault, the victim has been released from a local hospital, but is still receiving medical treatment.

Investigators received several Crimestoppers tips and have reviewed surveillance video of the crime.
