Legislators Consider First Responder Gun Bill

The South Carolina legislature is mulling over a bill to allow first responders to take a gun onto a school campus, during an emergency.

The measure received approval from the House Judiciary Committee, six months after a volunteer firefighter stopped a deadly rampage at a state elementary school. This law would allow a paramedic, or a firefighter who holds a concealed weapon permit, to take a 1 week certification course.

A 14-year old boy shot and killed his father, then drove to Townville Elementary where he shot and killed a 6-year old and injured two others, before the volunteer fireman, tackled, and subdued the young shooter.
