Newberry Sheriff Not Pleased With Church Sanctuary Policy

(Newberry, SC) -- A church's plan to shelter those facing deportation could run into some legal problems.

Newberry's Clayton Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church announced yesterday it will become a sanctuary church.

That means it will house some immigrants facing deportation, but Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster doesn't believe the church can do that.

He told News 19 yesterday he has contacted ICE, and his office will work with federal agents to enforce the law.
