Man Charged In Boating Death To Make First Court Appearance

A 19 year old charged in the February boat crash that killed 19 year old Mallory Beach is in court today in Beaufort County.

Paul Murdaugh is charged with boating under the influence causing death and two counts of boating under the influence causing great bodily injury. Murdaugh is a member of a well connected South Carolina family.

He's accused of being the person who was piloting a boat that hit a bridge near Parris Island. Six people were on the boat. Five came out of the water.

Police on the scene said all five appeared to be intoxicated and all five were under the age of 21.

Beach's body was found about a week later some five miles downstream from the crash site.
