Santee Cooper To Shutter Coal Plant

Santee Cooper is getting started with plans to shut down one of its two remaining coal fired plants in the state, but it's going to take a while.

The state owned utility says its plant near Georgetown will close two of its coal units in 2023, with the other two units going down 4 years later.

200 jobs will be lost in the process, but Santee Cooper says most of the workers will be offered other jobs with the company. The plant being closed was opened back in the 1970s.
