DHEC Data: 29% Of COVID-19 Deaths Come From Long-Term Care Facilities

(Columbia, SC) -- New data from DHEC shows 29% of the state's COVID-19 deaths come from long-term care facilities. Over 1600 residents and 28 staffers at care facilities have died from the virus.

South Carolina began administering the Moderna vaccine at these facilities on December 28th. Since then, nearly 13,000 doses have gone to residents, and over 6700 doses have gone to staff.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 1,361 new cases yesterday.

Yesterday's case numbers are believed to be low due to an internal systems issue. Any missing case numbers will be reported once that issue is fixed.
