Midlands Man Charged In Animal Cruelty Case

Kurt Haffner, a 36-year old Army staff sergeant abandoned his Meredith Square apartment, and a number of animals, whose remains were discovered by authorities. 

He's been charged with 24 counts of ill treatment of animals by the sheriff's department. The dead animals included snapping turtles, poisonous snakes, dragons, and a dog.

His apartment in Northeast Richland was so clogged with trash, garbage, animal feces, paper, and personal items, deputies actually had trouble even making entry. 

Each of those charges is a felony offense.
