Senate Adjourns Amid Gas Tax Proposal Debates

The Senate is preparing to stay nights and weekends if they can't reach a decision on the tax proposal that would decrease the sales tax to offset the gas tax.

The Senate adjourned on Thursday for the week. The Financing Committee approved a road-funding plan on Wednesday, but debate continues about cuts, credits and abolishing the State Transportation Infrastructure Bank.

With nine days remaining in the session and 30 amendments to look over, they are feeling the pressure to make a decision.

Proposals to raise the gas tax have been rejected by the Senate for the last three years. Governor Henry McMaster has also said he would veto any bill that increases the gas tax.
