Locals Concerned Over Mega-Farms In Edisto River Basin

Rural South Carolina residents are concerned over the impact agribusiness is having on thousands of acres in the Edisto River basin.

Corporate farming companies from out-of-state have cleared over ten-thousand acres of forests and planted huge vegetable farms here since 2013. Residents in the area say the farms are driving away wildlife and causing flooding.

Walther Farms from Michigan and the Woody agribusiness group from New Mexico and Texas are the newest companies to start growing in South Carolina.

People are concerned that these companies are taking the land and they fail to contribute to the local community by providing jobs.
