Law Enforcement Prepares To Keep Thousands Safe At Lake Murray This Weekend

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department hopes to prevent more fatal accidents as Memorial Day vacationers hook their boats up to trailers and head for Lake Murray.

After two men were killed in a boating accident already this year, officials are reminding the thousands of people headed there about the laws of the lake. They say if you don't have life jackets for everyone on the boat, proper lights or a lookout, you could face charges.

Law enforcement will be conducting safety checks to ensure boaters aren't impaired and they have all the proper equipment. Drivers face an almost 500-dollar-fine for not having the proper number of fitting life jackets on their boats.

The Sheriff's Department said lake patrols will have medical supplies and medics with them during Memorial Day weekend, too.
