Crane Creek Neighbors Fight Proposal For Incinerator

Community members in the Crane Creek neighborhood are concerned about a proposed incinerator being built at a recycling facility on Wessinger Road.

At a meeting with Department of Health and Environmental Control recently, residents voiced concerns about property values and air quality being affected by the burning trash. They urged the DHEC to decline the permit request, but the agency says the incinerator won't be as harmful as residents think.

They say the permit would only allow for paint-free wood and wood products to be burned at the facility. The DHEC will take public comment on the issue until June 12th.

If you'd like to voice your opinion, you can contact the Bureau of Air Quality office.
