Statehouse Lawmakers Seek Removal Of Confederate Monuments

Black statehouse lawmakers are pushing for the removal of Confederate monuments statewide.

The South Carolina Black Caucus announced yesterday that they are seeking the repeal of a law that requires the state legislature to authorize the removal of historical monuments.

Both chambers of the South Carolina Statehouse are controlled by Republicans. GOP state lawmakers who spoke publicly yesterday about the request said that changes to the law are unlikely.
