SCANA Tried To Pass Off Hooters Tab As Justification For Rate Hike

(Fairfield County, SC)  --  Attentive regulators are credited with stopping SCANA from using unnecessary expenses to justify rate hikes.

State regulators said this week there were about 40 justifications SCANA gave for a rate hike that were denied.  SCANA tried to pass off plane trips, limo service and a trip to Hooters as reasons it needed to raise electricity rates.

Regulators tell "The State" they blocked more than 200-thousand dollars in rate hike requests, but they worry some unjustifiable claims might have sneaked through.
