SCDC Director Wants State To Rethink Placing Cell Towers Near Prisons

(Columbia, SC)  --  Efforts to improve cell service are causing concern.

Verizon is building new cell towers close to some prisons, and the corrections department is worried this will lead to inmates having more access to cell phones.

SCDC Director Bryan Stirling met with FCC officials in Washington yesterday to discuss jamming cell signals in prisons.

WIS reports Stirling and the Department of Juvenile Justice sent a letter asking the Forestry Commission to stop a plan to put a tower near a DJJ facility.
