State Employees Want Budget Surplus Used For Bonuses

(Columbia, SC) -- The state has a budget surplus, and the governor is getting some suggestions on how to use it.

The State Employees Association sent Governor Henry McMaster a letter asking him to use the surplus on bonuses for state workers and teachers.

McMaster's Democratic opponent in the governor's race, James Smith, publicly supported that idea last week.

Others have suggested using the money for new voting machines, Hurricane Florence rebuilding, and tax cuts.
