Newberry County Church To Become Sanctuary For Illegal Immigrants

(Newberry, SC) -- A Newberry County church will play a controversial role in the illegal immigration debate.

Clayton Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church recently announced it will become a public sanctuary for those facing possible deportation.

It's the first church in the state to publicly become a sanctuary.

A church official tells the Anderson Independent Mail he hopes their decision sparks a change in immigration policy that can lead to a path to citizenship.
