Santee Cooper Accused Of Using Public Money For Legal Costs

(Columbia, SC) -- The governor is again criticizing what he has called a rogue agency.

Governor Henry McMaster yesterday sent a letter to Santee Cooper criticizing it for forcing customers to bear the burden of its legal problems.

The utility paid almost 850-thousand dollars last year in attorney fees to defend five executives who are being sued and are under investigation.

According to The State, McMaster writes that paying private attorneys to represent company officials is at odds with Santee Cooper's mission and the interests of its ratepayers.
