Senate Discusses Bill To Take Over Housing Authorities

If a Richland County lawmaker gets his way, it could be easier to remove local housing officials.

A state senate subcommittee, yesterday, discussed a bill filed by Democrat Darrell Jackson after two residents of a Columbia public housing complex died this year of carbon monoxide poisoning. The bill would give city leaders to the right to remove housing officials in the event of an emergency.

Members of the subcommittee decided to revise the bill to make sure it complies with federal law before moving forward.
