Lawmaker Releases Details On Student's Death

(Columbia, SC) -- Raniya Wright's family is disappointed with a lawmaker's recent comments on the girl's death.

State Senator Margie Bright Matthews, yesterday, revealed some details about the fight at a Colleton County school that took place two days before the girl died.

While on the senate floor, Bright Matthews said the fight between the fifth-graders was not a gang beating but a simple back-and-forth, and that Wright showed no signs of distress until she was in the principal's office afterwards.

Lawyers for Wright's family say the comments were inappropriate, incomplete and full of rumor and innuendo.
