Deputies Asking For Help In Treating Victims Of Dog-Fighting Ring

(Sumter, SC) -- The public is being asked to help treat animals hurt in a dog-fighting ring in Sumter County.

The county animal shelter put out the word yesterday that they need lots of dog food, flea and tick spray and cleaning products for about two dozen dogs.

Meanwhile, deputies announced yesterday that one of the dogs seized last week on Lowder Road died from an infection.

Alva Ridgeway is accused of running the dog-fighting ring, and he's facing a possible 135-year sentence.
