Massive Speeding Crackdown Will Begin Monday

Multiple law enforcement agencies will be teaming up for a massive speeding crackdown starting on Monday in states all across the Southeast.

The operation will take place in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.

This year's the third year for Operation Southern Shield which will run from July 15 - July 21st. Officers will be out in full force targeting speeding anywhere from interstates to local roads.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding has attributed to nearly one-third of all traffic deaths in the United States within the past decade.

The goal of the operation is to save lives by getting drivers to slow down on the road.

The operation saw a 51% decrease in traffic fatalities in 2017 over the same 7 day period during the the prior year.
