Santee Cooper Rejects Deal With Atlanta Utility

(Pinopolis, SC) -- Santee Cooper will not go forward with plans that drew criticism from state officials.

The utility's board yesterday decided not to sign a partnership deal with Atlanta's Southern Company after the state threatened to take legal action.

The Department of Administration informed the board the agency was concerned that the deal with Southern was being negotiated in secret.

Meanwhile, the board voted to reduce the amount of electricity it generates from coal.
