A hot start started slowly for Matthew NeSmith yesterday at the RBC Heritage. The North Augusta native and former Gamecock standout teed off on the back nine at Harbor Town, where some early frustration led to a solid day. NeSmith wound up shooting a five-under 66, tied for 10th after the tournament’s opening round. Ian Poulter and Mark Hubbard shared the first-round lead, with each firing a 7-under 64. Midlands native and former Coastal Carolina standout Dustin Johnson was four back after opening with a 68. The top three players in the world are at Hilton Head - Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas - and none of the three broke par yesterday.
