Cam Newton Signs One-Year Deal With The New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have finalized a one-year contract with former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. The incentive-laden deal could be worth up $7.5 million if Newton can stay healthy.

Newton's stock has dropped over the past few years due to injuries and inconsistent play. He was cut by the Panthers in March after playing just two games with a foot injury in 2019. In 2018, he missed time with a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery.

Before signing Newton, the Patriots had two quarterbacks on their roster vying for the chance to replace Tom Brady, 2019 fourth-round draft pick Jarrett Stidham and journeyman Brian Hoyer.

If Newton can stay healthy, he could easily find himself lining up under center for the Patriots when the season kicks off.
