Columbia Extends Mask Ordinance , Increases Fines

(Columbia, SC) -- The Columbia City Council has extended the city's mask mandate until January fifth. It was due to expire November 15th. 

The city council also increased the fine for not wearing a face mask within the city limits to $100. Previously, the fine limit was $25. 

Mayor Steve Benjamin called a special meeting yesterday to increase penalties for violations of the city's coronavirus restrictions after the city saw a 42-percent increase in confirmed cases between November second and third.
