DHEC Expects Up To 300,000 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses By End Of Year

(Columbia, SC) -- South Carolina health officials are expecting hundreds of thousands of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the year.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control says the federal government will be sending between 200,000 and 300,000 vaccine doses. Still, these amounts are subject to change.

DHEC says if the Pfizer vaccine is authorized at the FDA meeting on Thursday, they believe vaccine doses will start being delivered to South Carolina between December 14th and 16th.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 2,413 new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 218,820 since the pandemic began.

DHEC also reported 12 more deaths, for a state total of 4,249. DHEC says one death dates back to October 28th but most happened December 4th.
