White House Report: South Carolina Has 9th Highest COVID Positivity Rate

(Columbia, SC) -- A report from the White House says South Carolina has the 9th highest COVID-19 test positivity rate in the country. 

This puts the Palmetto state in the red zone, listing the test positivity at 19.7%. 

The state is also in the red zone for cases, meaning there are 101 or more new coronavirus cases per 100,000 people. South Carolina has 371 new cases per 100,000 population, which is still less than the national average of 413 per 100,000.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 4,037 new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 306,204 since the pandemic began.

DHEC also reported 71 more deaths that happened between December 10th and January 4th. 

Of the over 13,000 most recent test results, 30.9 percent were reported positive.
