South Africa COVID-19 Variant Detected In Two South Carolina Cases

A more contagious variant of the coronavirus first discovered in South Africa has now been detected in South Carolina.

Officials announced the first two confirmed cases of the variant in the U.S. are in the Palmetto state. Both cases were originally tested in January, have no connection to each other, and no known travel history.

Both cases are in adults -- one from the Lowcountry and one from the Pee Dee region.
