South Carolina Senate Passes Fetal Heartbeat Bill

The South Carolina Senate approves of a bill that would ban most abortions in the state.

They passed the Fetal Heartbeat Bill yesterday, which would stop women from getting abortions after six to eight weeks. There is an exception if the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother, if there is a fetal anomaly, or if the pregnancy happened as a result of rape or incest.

If it becomes a law, the bill would make it a felony for doctors to perform abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, or face a 100-thousand dollar fine and up to 2 years in jail.
