South Carolina Ranked 5th For COVID-19 Vaccinations

(Columbia, SC) -- Governor McMaster is celebrating an improvement in vaccinations in South Carolina.

The state now ranks fifth in the nation for how quickly doses are being administered, according to the Becker's Hospital Review.

The news comes as Prisma Health administered their 100,000th COVID-19 vaccine yesterday. Prisma Health officials say they've administered the most doses of the Pfizer vaccine in the state.

DHEC announced 2,130 new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 398, 892 since the pandemic began.

An additional 210 confirmed COVID deaths were also reported yesterday, putting the state's death toll at 6,564. One of those deaths occurred in October, but the majority reported yesterday happened in January.

A software glitch is blamed for the reporting delays.
