South Carolina Senate Considers Resolution To Vaccinate Teachers

(Columbia, SC) -- A joint resolution in the South Carolina Senate would move teachers to Phase 1A of the state's COVID-19 vaccination plan.

The resolution would also require DHEC and the Department of Education to make a plan to vaccinate all school staff within 30 days of the proposed legislation passing.

Governor McMaster wants to see people 65 and older be vaccinated first and says the measure would require all other vaccine appointments to be canceled. If the resolution passes, it would require schools to offer in-person learning five days a week.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control announced 1,649 new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 403,928 since the pandemic began.

An additional 75 confirmed COVID deaths were also reported yesterday, putting the state's death toll at 6,730.
