Spartanburg County Man Sentenced In Scheme To Defraud Military Members

(Spartanburg County, SC) -- A Spartanburg County man will spend over five years in federal prison. 

Thirty-two-year-old Wendell Wilkins is already serving a 12-year sentence for attempted armed robbery. Now, he's pleaded guilty to a money-laundering scheme used to defraud military members. 

Prosecutors say the extortion operation happened within the South Carolina Department of Corrections and led to several victims taking their lives.
