Gov. McMaster Being Sued Over Ending Federal Unemployment Benefits

(Columbia, SC) -- Governor McMaster is facing a lawsuit after the state stopped federal unemployment benefits.

The plaintiffs are four South Carolina residents who say they are eligible for CARES Act pandemic unemployment benefits that are not being paid out.

The suit claims the state was issued funds by Congress to be distributed through September 6th. But, Governor McMaster ordered the state to opt-out of the benefits effective June 30th.
