South Carolina Supreme Court: Ban On School Mask Mandates Constitutional

(Columbia, SC) -- South Carolina's ban on requiring masks in schools is constitutional. That's the ruling the South Carolina Supreme Court made Thursday.

The court says the proviso stops schools from using funds authorized under the state budget but doesn't reject the possibility of using other funds for a mask mandate.

Still, justices did not offer any guidance on whether or not schools should require facial coverings.

Their ruling comes after a federal judge blocked the state's ban on mask mandates earlier this week.
