SLED's 2020 Crime Report Shows Increase In Murders Statewide

(Columbia, SC) -- Violent crime is increasing in South Carolina. 

SLED's 2020 crime report was released this week, showing murders statewide went up 22-percent in 2020. 

That puts South Carolina's murder rate at the highest it’s been since 1993. 

In 2017, there were 373 murders in the state... a number that has since increased by 48-percent. There were 552 murders in South Carolina in 2020.
