Justice Stephen Breyer will retire at the end of this term, and President Biden has pledged to nominate the first Black woman to the high court.
Judge J. Michelle Childs is a potential candidate.
She was just nominated to fill a seat on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in December, and has previously served as a U.S. District Court Judge for South Carolina and a state trial court judge on the S.C. Circuit Court.
