Subcommittee Advances Bill To Ban All Abortions In South Carolina

(Columbia, SC) - A subcommittee is advancing proposed legislation that would ban all abortions in South Carolina if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.

The measure now goes before the full Senate Medical Affairs Committee for consideration.

If the bill becomes law, it would define life as beginning at fertilization.

Under the proposed legislation, a doctor performing an abortion could face charges unless a mother's life is in danger or an egg was fertilized outside of the womb.
