COVID-19 Omicron Subvariant Detected In South Carolina

(Columbia, SC) - The omicron subvariant BA.2 is detected in South Carolina.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control reported the case of the subvariant this week.

It's often called the stealth variant because it is harder to detect with COVID-19 testing.

So far, BA.2 does not seem to cause more severe illness than the omicron variant.
