Federal Appeals Court Blocks Fetal Heartbeat Abortion Law

(Columbia, SC) - A federal appeals court is upholding a lower court decision on South Carolina's fetal heartbeat abortion bill.

The Fourth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed the ruling made in March of 2021, stopping the law from taking effect.

The law could be validated depending on a Supreme Court decision on a similar abortion law in Mississippi.

South Carolina lawmakers are also considering abortion bills this year that would essentially ban the procedure if Roe V. Wade is overturned.
